Rokie is doing okay. His creatinine level went up to 1.5 so we hope it is nothing serious and he just continues to heal.

Stephanie said the doctors may do the bowel surgery now to allow Rokie to have enough bowel so he can gain his nutrition through the digestive tract rather than IV fluids. We will see.

Stephanie told me one of the doctors suggested Rokie get some surgery by this weekend in order to allow more intestine to process his foods. Right now only a short section of bowels are connected to the stomach. We'll see what happens.

Rokie really seems to be improving quite well and is just really fun to play with. He interacts with games, tries to say words, listens to commands, cries when I tell him I have to go home, and all kinds of things you would typically expect from a toddler.
Rokie's electrolytes and toxins seemed outside the desired ranges so the medical team is "fine tuning" the medicines and fluids to get Rokus in the ideal condition. There was some talk about him going to the 4th floor this week and leaving the ICU. The rehab team will take over as to what the next things are that will need improvement before Rokie can go home. One of the doctors informed me surgery on the bowels may not be performed for 6-12 months in order to allow the kidneys a long time to heal before shocking the body again.
Another doctor was making it sound as though we will need weekly and monthly visits to monitor the kidneys. This could last many, many years.

The doctors said his Creatinine levels increased slightly today, which is not good. His BUN, phosphorous, and potassium all increased as well, which may mean he is not being hydrated enough, so the doctors have ordered his fluids to be increased. He seems fairly healthy but exhausted all the time. Poor guy.
I took him to the playground today again. This time he stood and then took two very wobbly steps. He and I did finger painting and we played with play-doh while he sat on my lap. Anna, one of our favorite nurses, brought him the paints and the play-doh. All the nurses really love Rokie and everyone is really excited for him.
